Have been working in online marketing since the mid-90's. I'm a tale of two cities, with one ecommerce client and several consistent local clients. Local search used to be more of a sideline, but within the last few years it has become a larger part of my pie. My approach to local search is to always start off with the basics which includes an audit of the business and creating a goals, objectives and mission statement. Ensuring the business's digital foundation is in order always sets the stage for any advanced local search methods. Due to the rapid nature of change, the complexity and breath of local search, I consider myself more of a practitioner of local search than an expert. Perhaps the most value I find is listening to others more experienced in this field as the share their knowledge.
