Here I’m f…… stuck with the new way Google has for you to assign local extensions from GMB to an AdWords account.
Until now, for a given client, I simply had access to their Google account (that is managing hundreds of locations and business accounts) and I could input that account into AdWords.
Now, for a few days already, I’ve noticed that you can only assign location extensions (within AdWords) from the GMB account linked to the Google account managing the AdWords account.
My first idea was to give AdWords access to the GMB account… but I can’t as the system says that this address already has a Google account assigned.
Not sure if I’m clear.
Not sure there is a simple solution.
Any thoughts on this?September 2, 2015 at 10:08 am #9068
My first thought would be to call the adwords rep compared to GMB to see if they have a work around for you. Or could you create an MCC dashboard and use their GMB email to add to the adwords account?September 2, 2015 at 10:09 am #9069
My first thought is that if this is something newish, of course it’s boogered up. Google frequently releases stuff that doesn’t quite work right and then has to iron out the wrinkles.
I’d go to the Adwords help forum to see if others are experiencing the same problem and if they’ve found any solutions. I’d also call AdWords support and ask them for help.September 2, 2015 at 10:10 am #9070
Mike, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this:
- Waiting for feedback from my “high-level” Google Rep.
- I was going for that idea but the GMB email says that there is already an AdWords account associated (and so I can not make the GMB email an MCC with access to the AW accounts.
I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear from Google on this.
P.S. Mary, thanks for taking the time. I appreciate (and I’ll make sure I get help from Google on this).

In the end, after not receiving real help from my Google Rep, I found out a way to get our addresses used with GMB to become AdWords MCC accounts rather than simple AdWords accounts.
Quite simply, for each account, I simply had to make a new email address that would get Administrative access to the existing account (and would then revoke access to the address used with GMB). From there, I simply had to invite the address used with GMB to access the MCC.
