Although geo sitemaps are no longer supported by Google, I’m wondering if anyone is still creating KML files, especially for multi-location sites. I have some big brands that I’m thinking about using it for. Does anyone have any advice on if it’s worthwhile and how to execute it for hundreds of locations?

    Hi Mary,

If you’re using WordPress, check out Yoast’s local SEO plugin. It creates geositemaps.

That said, I’ve used that plugin for over 25 websites for the past year and can’t really tell if it’s helping.

If the site is unable to implement Rich Snippets for some reason, it seems to me that it would make sense to have a KML file to be sure that Google understands where each store is located. It couldn’t hurt unless it went unmaintained.
