    Eve,

I was speaking with my Google Home Services contact yesterday about this and I asked him about your scenario. He looked up the Christensen Electric company and said in his system they were marked as “unqualified.” I guess this means Google performed some checks such as license, insurance, reputation, customer experience, and felt that the company didn’t qualify for the program. He wouldn’t be any more specific on exactly why they were unqualified. Unfortunately, they have gone the route of communicating nothing with users when that is the case, so it is impossible to know what the status is.

Is is possible the companies you submitted do not have proper licenses, insurances, etc.? I know Joy is also digging into this, so maybe her contacts will share more information. I hope this helps at least a little bit.

I 100% agree with Joy that Google’s communication on this product has been horrendous. We’ve already had two customers pulled down in Google Home Services and told they failed checks. Then Google came back and said, oops, our bad – you didn’t do anything wrong. There was just a bug in our system. While we waited for updates their team treated the business like criminals. Not exactly great customer service.

    Hey Guys,

I just passed this along. I’m annoyed (at Google, not you). I’m preparing a piece on HSAs (also called “the trainwreck”) that I’ll be publishing next week. Do you mind if I include this story if I keep your names/clients names anonymous?

    Hi Joy,

We have worked with about 10 companies to get Home Service Ads launched or companies that are in the process. It has been a bumpy ride to put it nicely. I would be happy to have a conversation with you regarding our experiences. There might be some good material for your “trainwreck” article. I have provided a lot of feedback to Google on how their program leaves a lot to be desired, but I think the more people that speak up about it the better. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if I can be of assistance.

    Thanks!
    Ashley

    Hey Eve,

I heard back and they said to apply here instead: https://adwords.google.com/homeservices/signup

Don’t ask me why on earth there is a new form lol

I have a hangout with them coming up about this next week. Please send me any questions you want me to ask (same for you Ashley).

Thanks Joy! Here are a couple of questions..

Is Google backed up in applications (longer processing times)

Why do they not want to interact with marketing agencies?

What happens after we get a point of contact person? Can this Google Rep apply on our behalf for more businesses?

Does the IP address the application is coming from make a difference or is it just the one linked to the account (ie, the area the account was created in, usually logged into from)?

Have Google been canvassing businesses in the areas of HSAs?

Do you have to have an AdWords Express account before applying? Does it have to be active (spending)?

If the business category is not listed as an option (ie, carpet cleaning), will we get any response to the application?

If you apply too many times, will you be blocked from applying?

Thanks for the help as always!

If our application is denied, will we be notified?

    Hey Eve,

Just following up, can you let me know which businesses (list the maps urls) that you’re still experiencing issues with? Google wants me to compile a list but they need to know the specifics of the business in order to help.

We successfully got our client setup with HSA ads, but it was a little easier since we went through our Premier Agency team.

We setup our accounts using the existing AdWords account of the client (not our MCC. it uses clients account for billing.). Also, it is a completely separate interface for HSAs. Cant manage currently though an MCC.

    Hey Ashley,

Google responded and said they reached out to you guys and it sounds like they are on the way to resolving lots of your issues.

Eve – are you guys still having the same issues? If so, want me to give Google your contact info?

Yes. I got in touch with someone at Google as a result of one of our customer’s onboarding calls, and I think he was filled in on our past issues and conversations.

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, I’ve experienced the same scenario with several businesses. That team at HSA is a real pain in the a..! We’ve had to do this 3x – communication stinks. Meanwhile, while you’re waiting to get in, all the other HSA competitive businesses that have made it in are eating up your client’s business and jacking up your Google PPC cpc’s (we’ve seen 30% – 50% increases in cpc’s when HSA rolled out in the plumbing niche). Don’t expect anything anytime soon from my experience.

Here’s another email if that helps, hsa-onboarding@google.com
I have a couple names/contact info of HSA people that onboarded some of our clients if you’re interested, although I’m not hopeful they would even bother returning your calls or help you.
