I had a client just get moved into the new Google Dashboard. When I went in all his listings showed as needing to be verified. So I went through to see what my options were and phone was an option so I clicked verify later so I could get with the client and do the verifications via phone instead of sending the postcards.

I was then sent to a window where there was a little loading icon and it said Now Creating Your Google Business Page. It automatically generated a google business page and attached it to that listing. I did not want a business page for that listing since we do not plan to be active for that location in regards to posting but it generated it automatically and when I delete the page it deletes the listing from in the dashboard also. I re-added and it just re-creates the page again with no option not to.

Is this some new mandatory feature because I have never encountered this until yesterday. Anyone know a way around this?

Yes – Google is automatically creating pages with social features now for nearly all listings now.

Because this will be on all pages going forward I wrote this: Google+ Pages for Local: An SMB Survival Guide to provide a minimum number of “must do’s” to cope with this new reality.

Thanks for the quick replies and great article Mike. I do have a follow-up question, what happens if an existing listing is moved into the new dashboard and they have an existing business page not tied to that yet, will it still create a new page and associate it with that listing or will there be an option to tie that existing business page to it.

There are several page types. Do you know if it is a local, brand or company page?

Im just thinking about clients down the road that this happens to, if they had a local business page attached to their account does it still auto generate a new page or will the option to attach that existing page be offered?

Joel can probably say better than I at this point as I have not personally experienced too many in that situation. Can you share URLs for the specific pages so that i can look at them?
