These were assembled with the help of Google Top Contributors Helmut and Treebles.
1-When a business Updates address the new address shows but driving directions still go to the old location
Here is another case of wrong directions for a business that changed address.
The driving directions go to the old address with the dotted line pointing to the new location.
Here is an example of driving directions illustrating the issue.
You should first contact Google MyBusiness Support and request that this be fixed. They have a mixed record of solving the problem so if it is still an issue then you should report in the forum and ask for help escalating.
2- When a location is closed it shows in the search results instead of the new location. Here is a forum discussion of the possible solutions which include getting the old location opened, changed, modified and merged, doing a citation campaign around the new location, redirecting the old site and as a final resort complaining directly to Google.
3- Google has recently closed lots of locations that are really open. This isn’t really a bug just an over aggressive algo that is perhaps based on the recently announced patent that allows them to “fight spam” automatically via street view images:
Fix is to immediately contact Google Support and have reopened. Also attempt reopen via the link “not true?” that shows with the listing. Be sure to annotate with a note.
4- Malformed Plus Page that is detached from Maps – the page still shows as verified but is missing certain elements like reviews and the map and has lost its link to Maps. Sometimes the listing shows in Maps and other time no. Google’s response: engineering issue and it will take several months to resolve. No known fix but try contacting Google Support as it might be erroneous spam classification.
5- Wrong opening hours can’t be reported through “Edit details”
6- The Google Booking tool ad, when shown on a hotel/b&b brand search Knowledge Panel shows the following message: “No known availability for these dates” regardless of the dates chosen.
Apparently this happens when a hotel used to have a relationship with Booking.com but no longer does.
There is a related problem when Google allows Booking.com (and perhaps others) to place a booking ad against a facility with which they do not have a relationship.
“We are a small boutique hotel and our Google+ page is showing a “Make a Reservation” widget which takes people to Booking.com. We are not affiliated with Booking.com so when people click on that widget and go to the Booking.com site they see the message Click here to see nearby hotels.”
“We’re sorry, but it is currently not possible to make reservations for this hotel. Click here to see nearby hotels”. Small boutique hotels and B&B not associated with major websites erroneously show as no space at the inn in the Google booking tool.
Fix: Google has finally responded on how to go about getting this fixe.
-Hotel Prices Help Center (https://support.google.com/hotelprices#topic=6064415)
-There select the “Account Management and Performance issues” issue and
-Then select “Ad Serving Issues” from the right side navigation bar.
This will get you to the team that hopefully will be able to assist with their issue. Here’s the direct path: https://support.google.com/hotelprices/contact/hpa_adserving?hl=en&cfsi=ad_serving&cfnti=escalationflow.email&cft=3
7- Sometimes the Dashboard does not recognize valid addresses in the geocoder and there is no mechanism to fix the marker position when creating a new business listing.
Sometimes it can be fixed just by moving the pin to the front of the building in the edit location mode. Sometimes not.
8- Categories that are in the list and usable in the US are not allowed to be used in certain countries outside the US (this may be a feature not a bug due to local restrictions?)
Solution: If you are doing the listing in English, use a US based proxy server to enter the category.
9- Restaurant menus that are usually outdated in the aggregators’s web site linked in the Knowledge Panel and there is an easy way to get them off. In theory, Google is giving preference to outdated menus like locu.com rather than the local site. When you call support you are told that it needs to be resolved at Locu and that Google can’t do anything about it.
Fix: Call Locu (GoDaddy support) and have menu taken down, make the local website menu more prominent with internal linking and be sure to either add rich snippet markup or use the Data Highligher the menu in the Search Consile (aka Webmaster tools). Also call or email Google My Business support and they will (hopefully) elevate the problem which is widespread.
10- Currently MapMaker is currently MIA, taken down for community edits. MapMaker was obviously the best place to report errors in road geometry, road naming, new roads, new subdivisions etc. Note that unlike in the past, MapMaker is not the best place to report listing issues as those are now best dealt with via the GMB dashboard and support.
Solution: Google Maps is still moderating Map Report a Problem reports.
1 – Navigate to the map area needing updating
2 – Click on Report a Problem link in the lower right
3 – Per the instruction pop up, drop a pin at the affected area
4 – Click closes problem
5 – Be sure to add notes and links to reference maps and articles detailing the correct road structure
