Mike: Dystopian article of the week
But you have to give the “alleged” stabber credit. He did make the delivery. This suit typifies the lack of vetting in the rush to find drivers.

Mike: As we have seen in most “sharing economy” gigs wages have dropped significantly since they started. One can only hope that organizing can help drivers achieve some stability in their work life.
Mike: This is a huge win for Google, to become the “middleware” monitoring all internal systems of the car and interacting with the driver. One presumes that the car companies and Google will learn a lot about both the drivers and in car use cases. I do not look forward to the dashboard becoming one more marketing surface though.
Mike: Well worth a listen even if you think you know how the also works. Some good tidbits for all.
Mike: Google has shifted away from radius type service areas to geo-based services areas. If you have any Service Area Businesses (SABs) in your dashboard you should go in and check that the area provided is a large enough geo unit. You may need to update it from a neighborhood to a city or a city to a county to get an accurate representation of your true service area.
Mike: One of the more creative review incentives, an eco hotel was giving a donation to charity for every TripAdvisor review but alas TripAdvisor says: No Go. It is still an incentive and not allowed.
Mike: An interesting story about a legit listing that was taken down and, due to snafus on Google’s end, kept off for a very long time. And the need of the company to goto court to file a subpoena to get information from Google as to who was in fact falsely reporting the listing.
Carrie: This is a convoluted company that is a subsidiary of another company inside another and so on. Interesting that they’d cut their valuation by more than half ahead of the IPO. I cant help but think the employees are the ones that are hurt by this.
Mike references this article by Stratechery in the video for more info on why WeWork is NOT a tech company!
“Frankly, it is hard to see how WeWork (despite their claims, is a tech company in any way. “
Carrie: Luca Tagliaferro talks about adding FAQ schema and looks at a case study of how it has affected 1,000 keywords – benefits include improving CTR and taking up more SERP real estate. I think for some brands this is a no-brainer – although featured snippets are limited in local, they dont show much if a maps pack does show.
Google Maps Is Still Directing Women Seeking Abortions to Pro-Life Clinics — and a Memorial for the ‘Unborn’ – VICE
Carrie: There was a huge outcry about a year ago because anti-abortion, secular “family planning” centers were ranking for abortion queries, even though they were not categorized as such. It looks like that has NOT been cleaned up at all. There’s a restricted “abortion clinic” category that should make this a no brainer.
Carrie: I just got my invite to buy Echo Auto. It hooks through Aux or Bluetooth and allows you to listen to music, search check the news, find the nearest gas station, and more, make calls, set reminders, add items to your shopping and to-do lists, or manage your calendar. Not sure I’ll order one – but it’s one way for Alexa/Amazon to take over in-car searches instead of using your phone.
