Carrie: Mike wrote about a new feature we’re seeing on mobile, Google is showing a new image-based search interface. It shows local results visually based on an image matching the search query. From what I can tell its pulling photos from GMB uploads from business OR users…. But I don’t think it’s restricted to those photos.
Carrie: GatherUp partnered with Allstate to drive engagement and reviews to their agent profiles. Shows a great growth – 1.5million+ reviews in less than 5 years, 89% increase in Google reviews YOY and an average rating of 4.6/5 across the site.
Carrie: Bright Local surveyed the folks at the Local Search Forum to see what local SEO tools they like – here’s a list of 10 great ones. I’d add KeywordsEverywhere (not free) combined with GS Location Changer & The GatherUp review URL generator.
Carrie: Marie Haynes wrote up the Q&A with Gary Illyes from Pubcon -some interesting SEO tidbits in here. I didn’t make it to the keynote that day (because keynotes are EARLYYY) but Marie saved my bacon and covered it amazingly. I thought this was interesting,
Jennifer Slegg: “How often do site owners hurt themselves with the disavow tool?
Gary Illyes: “It’s often enough that if it were me I’d remove the disavow tool. If you don’t know what you are doing you can shoot yourself in the foot.”
Jennifer: Can unlinked brand mentions benefit a site?
Gary: “Indirect. A better understanding of your brand.”
Carrie: Bill Hartzer discovered a bug in Google My Business (and Google Maps app) that leads to 404 errors on websites. Has to do with tracking URLs in the Maps App. Here’s details of the bug and what you can do to fix it
