Jet.com falls by wayside as Walmart focuses on its website, online grocery | Article [AMP] | Reuters

Source: mobile.reuters.com

Mike: Mike: Walmart said it will integrate Jet.com's retail, technology, marketing, analytics and product teams with its own online business after it failed to live up to the world's largest retailer's e-commerce ambitions. Jet.com, an online start-up it acquired in 2016 for $3.3 billion in an effort by WalMart to go upscale. Jet selling about $650 million, did not reach the $1 billion goal set by Walmart

This shows two things, how hard it is for Walmart to reach into the upper middle class and urban shopping world AND how high the bar is set for a project to be a keeper at the level of sales that Walmart has.

Amazon to shut down its Amazon Restaurants business in the U.S. – GeekWire

Mike: The competition is fierce in the food delivery market, with companies such as Uber, Grubhub, and DoorDash seeing big growth in recent years. Those three companies combined hold more than 75 percent of the U.S. food delivery market share.

Similar to Walmart, if a project doesn’t scale to a billion or three and Amazon can’t see itself becoming one or two, they exit.

Moz Local 301s To Uberall | Local SEO Guide

Source: www.localseoguide.com

Mike: "The problem is well-funded competitors like Yext* and Uberall are playing a global game and trying to grab as much big-brand market share as they can. It’s a big market to be sure, and there’s a ton of opportunity, but there are also plenty of competitors right behind them like Brandify, Rio, Reputation.com, SweetIQ, entire villages in the Philippines, etc. making it hard to stand out."

Hopefully this partnership will allow Moz to focus on adding significant value to their listing business going forward.

GMB Suspensions Ramping Up Again

Source: www.localsearchforum.com

Mike: Lot’s of noise in the GMB forums, Twitter and Local Search forums about a dramatic increase in the number of accounts being suspended. Those that are legit are being let back in after revivification and many good locations have been hit. But and this is a big but, if you have been relying on virtual offices, shared work spaces and multiple (against guideline listings) at one location you should be concerned.
